OLAP reporting with Webdashboard

You have completed your Business Intelligence project: Your data warehouse is in place, the ETL (Extract Transform & Load) process is working and you have your OLAP cube ready. But now what? How do you get this data to the end-users? How are you going to do your OLAP reporting?

The Webdashboard is a Dashboarding tool that is meant for presenting management information to the end user. Data that is displayed in the Webdashboard orignate from an OLAP cube. The Webdashboard can display several cubes in one dashboard. Below you find a schematic outline of the Webdashboard and how it interacts with other parts of a Business Intelligence solution. By using the Webdashboard Designer you select your server and cube and then simply build up a dashboard. The following picture outlines the architecture of the Webdashboard software:

How does Webdashboard fit into the SQL Server solution?

Perfectly! We position the Webdashboard on top of the SQL Server suite. Most of our clients try to utilize all the SQL Server options:
On the reporting side you have Reporting Services which is perfect for more static reports. And you have Excel 2007 (and Proclarity) for deep analysis. We position the Webdashboard as the starting point of your company’s management information.
With Webdashboard you provide enough information for over 80% of your employees. Users that want to do even further analysis use Excel, users that want a more traditional (paper) report use Reporting Services.

What is OLAP?

OLAP stands for: OnLine Analytical Processing. (Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OLAP ) OLAP is multi-dimensional, so data is pre-calculated on multiple dimensional levels which gives it very fast reporting opportunities. It provides an optimal structure to analyze and distribute data in a fast way through the use of MDX queries.
